K to 12 Curriculum in the Philippines is new. It just started last school year 2012 -2013. Since this is a new curriculum, it has a different grading system. The grading system use the KPUP acronym in which K stands for Knowledge, P is for Process/Skills, U for understanding, and P is for the Performance. Each of these skills has its corresponding percentages.
Knowledge is 15 %,
Process/Skills is 25 %,
Understanding is 30 %, and
Performance is 30 %, with a total of 100%.
Let us say for example you give a quiz for 10 items, and all of your questions are under knowledge, and so the score will be recorded under knowledge only. But if you give a quiz wherein there is a combination of knowledge and understanding, you have to count the score in knowledge and record it under knowledge in your class record; and also count the score in understanding and record it also under understanding in your class record.
For the periodical examination, you also need to determine which part is knowledge, process/skills, understanding and performance so that it can be easier for you to record. You can use your TOS in determining which items under knowledge, process/skills, understanding and performance.
For your project you can place it under the performance. Role playing is also under performance. You can provide rubrics in grading student's project and also for role playing, You can find sample of rubrics from the internet and you can also make your own rubrics. Students can also help in making the rubrics.
The system of grading to all subject areas is just the same, using KPUP acronym with the same percentages.
The final grade of the students can be calculated by adding all the percentages. The final grade of the students has its numerical counterpart/value. Below are the corresponding counterpart:
90% and above A (Advanced)
85%- 89% is P (Proficient)
80% - 84% is AP (Approaching Proficiency)
75% - 79% is D (Developing)
74% and below B (Beginning)
I hope this short article helps you in your journey of calculating your students grades, especially those who are beginners in the field of teaching.
